Cross-National Analysis in Northeast Asian Studies:the Case of Chinese Politics - Joo-Youn JUNG


  Northeast Asian studies generally include (South and North) Korea, China, Taiwan and Japan. Studies on these individual countries, especially on China and Japan are abundant, yet cross-national comparative analyses between these counties have been limited. Compared to Latin American or European studies, where cross-national comparisons between the countries within the regions are actively conducted, the compartmentalization between countries and country specialists are stronger in the field Northeast Asian Studies. Such a tendency is most evident in the Chinese studies; comparative studies on Japan, Korea, and Taiwan are not uncommon, but cross-national comparison between these cases and China is relatively hard...
























Reciprocal Consilience of Eastern-Western Thought - Sun-Hye KIM


  Schopenhauer, one of typical Westerners, was a unique being who would worship a Buddha statue in his house and read the paragraphs of theUpanishads before going to bed. He was not reluctant to include the same and the other in his own philosophy. Schopenhauer is a philosopher who successfully combined the Western thinking familiar with him and the Eastern thinking strange to him in the process of the quest for his subject.



  Schopenhauer's consilient thought can be highly appreciated largely in two respects. One is the fact itself that he officially poured the Eastern-Western thinking in his thought instead of rejecting, neglecting or secretly using the Oriental thinking .....
